In 1960, when Darlene Kovack and her husband, Gene were closing on their first home near Sharon, Pennsylvania, the transaction hit a snag. The home included an extra lot, which had been sold in a sheriff’s sale. “We couldn’t close on the home,” recalls Darlene. “That’s when I said, ‘I have to learn more about this business.”’
Darlene went on to found one of the most respected real estate companies in North East Ohio --Kovack, Realtors – and to become one of the most influential women in Ohio real estate.
In 2005, Darlene and her daughter, broker Michele Kovack Boyd, acquired “a piece of the rock,” changing the company’s 25-year-old name to Prudential Kovack Realtors. “It’s all about growth,” Darlene explains. “Our company and its reputation are well-known in North East Ohio. But as more and more people relocate here from around the nation, we needed an affiliation with a nationally recognized name and reputation. So we became a part of the Prudential Real Estate Network.”
