Some Basics for SEO or Search Engine OptimizationSome Basics for SEO or Search Engine Optimization

3.5 billion searches are performed on Google everyday. That goes to show that no matter what you do,people are out there searching for your products and services on Google. The big question is,are you getting found? Are you showing up? Or… are you deep in the SERPs somewhere on page 3 or beyond?

The crazy thing is that even though there are billions of searches everyday,a recent study found that almost 91% of the content on the Internet gets no search volume at all. How sad is that? So,wouldn’t you like to be the part of the 9% of web pages today that are getting free and passive traffic from Google for the products and services you have to offer?

I have some tips that are geared towards SEO for beginners. These include things that will help you make sure that your content is fully optimized for search and you can begin receiving traffic from Google.

First of all, what is SEO? SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization. It’s a process of optimizing your web pages, website and other various online content to attract free organic traffic from the major search engines like Google and Bing.

You can think of the major search engines like a filing system in a library. The library has tons of books with a gazillion pages. What if you want to find something related to losing weight. When you type in that term in the search bar,Google will go out and sift through billions of sites with mega billions of pages to try to find the most relevant content for you when it comes to losing weight.

The search engines use sophisticated algorithms to make this happen so that you can enjoy the most relevant results and answer your most pressing questions related to whatever you type in the search bar.

They are really quite good at this. So good in fact that we often don’t have to click through to a site to find the answer we are looking for because Google displays your answer right there in the search results. For example, look up weather in your area. Chances are,you will be provided with your current weather front and center and won’t even have to go to any particular site like weather.com for example.

Nobody really knows exactly how these algorithms work or how Google implements its algorithm to deliver the most relevant search results but SEO experts like-are able to give you an edge and help you succeed with your organic web marketing efforts. This is because we are aware of the Google Ranking Factors that contribute to your ability to get found on the first page of search results.

We have several tasks to perform. One is to make sure it’s easy for search engines to know what your page or website is about and create content that matches your searchers intent. Next we need to show Google and Bing that your content is worthy of ranking. We need to become proficient at keyword research,on page SEO and off page SEO.

And finally, troubleshooting and adjustment which is an ongoing and never ending task when it comes to search engine optimization. More on Back Links and Off Page SEO:

Off-page SEO is often referred to as link building. Link building is the process of getting other websites to link to your web pages. Basically, links act as “votes” or other people vouching for your website. Backlinks work in a similar way that you would refer your friend to buy a product from your favorite store because you’ve tried it,used it,and loved it.
